After School Phone Number – The phone number for the Before/After School program is 618-531-7570. Please mark this in your home phone book.
Hot Lunch – Hot Lunch for the month of September is due on Wednesday, August 29, 2007. Please make checks payable to the PSA.
Forms – All forms that have been sent home are due in the school office by Tuesday, September 4. Physicals – Sports and school physicals are due now!!
Students in Kindergarten and Grade 5 are required to have a new physical on file by the beginning of the school year. Students in Grades 6, 7, and 8 are required to have a new physical each school year to play sports.
Spanish – Mrs. Aurora Schiber will be teaching Spanish to all grades this year on Fridays. We thank her for expanding the Spanish program in our school.
New Computers – We have installed 10 new computers in our lab over the summer.
Thanks to the Alton Foundation for a grant and the PSA for making this possible. Also Mr. Duane Amistadi and his crew installed all new internet cable in the lab to make our programs run faster! Thank you!
Market Day Pick Up – Market Day pick up is Friday, August 31 from 5:00 – 6:00 PM in the cafeteria.
PE – The students will have PE on Friday, August 31 instead of Music. Please send your child to school in tennis shoes on that day.
Campbells Soup Labels – We collect Campbell's Soup Labels to redeem for school equipment. Please cut the UPC code from the back of the can and send to school during the school year.
Campbells will only accept the UPC code from the soup can! The front of the label is no longer accepted! Thank you!
Box Tops for Education – We also collect Box Tops from General Mills Products.
Each Box top is worth .10. Please cut the Box Top from the product and send to the homeroom teacher. More details will come home about this program.
Macy's – Macy's Department Store is again sponsoring the Shop For A Cause Fund Raiser on October 13, 2007. If you purchase a shopping pass for $5.00 you can save 20% on any of your purchases that day and
SS. Peter & Paul will receive the $5.00 donation. We have 100 tickets to sell which will result in $500.00 for the school. Please call the school office or contact Mrs. vonAlmen or Miss Fischer for
the shopping passes.
Macy's & Escrip – Macy's has also joined the Escrip program which we already participate in with Schnucks. If you have a Macy's charge card or a Macy's Visa card you can call and register to
participate in this program. The number is 1-800-254-5404 or register at www.escrip.com. SS. Peter & Paul will receive 3% of all your purchases.
Protecting God's Children – All new parents to our school who plan to attend field trips or class parties etc. must attend the workshop "Protecting God's Children" as required by the Diocese of Springfield
before attending any event. The workshop will be held on Monday, September 17 at 6:30 PM in the Sloan Room. Please call the school office at 465-8711 to attend.
Pre – School – SS. Peter & Paul is in the process of beginning a pre-school for the 2008 – 2009 school year.
If you have a 3 or 4 year old that will be ready for pre-school next fall, please call the school office to pre-register at 465-8711. We need to get registration counts to begin the process!!

Dear Parents,
Welcome to a new school year!
I hope you are enjoying the summer and are getting ready for a new school year! We welcome our returning and new school families! I hope you find this letter helpful to the opening of the school year.
Opening of School
School will resume on Monday, August 20 from 7:55 AM to 12:00 noon for Grades 1 – 8. Kindergarten parents and students will have an informational meeting at 9:00 AM for one hour
on Monday, August 20.
Kindergarten students do not need to wear uniforms on this date. School will be in session on Tuesday, August 21 from 7:55 AM to 12:00 noon for all grades. Wednesday, August 22 is the first full day of school from 7:55 AM to 2:30 PM. Students will need to bring a lunch for the first two weeks of school. Hot Lunch will begin on the Tuesday after Labor Day. (order forms will be sent home) Milk is $3.00 per month for either white or chocolate. Milk for the first two weeks of school is $1.50. Please send your order in by Wednesday, August 22 to order milk for August.
The school doors open each day at 7:40 AM with the tardy bell ringing at 7:55 AM. Classes begin at 8:00 AM.
Before/After School Program
The Before/After School Program will begin on Monday, August 20. The Before School programs runs each school day from 6:45 AM to 7:45 AM in the Community Center.
Students may bring breakfast food to the program that requires no preparation by staff. Do not drop children off at the Community Center unless there is an adult present. Students will be dismissed at 7:45 AM to enter the school building. The After School program runs each school day from 2:30 PM (half days of school 12:00 noon) to 6:00 PM. Students attending the after school program will line up at the back doors each day and will walk to the cafeteria with the supervisor. Parents may pick up their child in the cafeteria after work.
Registration for the Before/After School program will be held on Wednesday, August 15 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Community Center. Registration fees are $10.00 per family.
All forms, medical and emergency must be filled out before your child may attend the program. For further information, contact Mrs. Sue Kaid at 465-9032 or Mrs. Lynn Albert at 462-8767.
Kindergarten First Day of School
The kindergarteners will not have a regular school day on the first day of school. (August 20) We ask that one parent, with your kindergartener, attend an orientation meeting in
the kindergarten classroom from 9:00 – 10:00 AM. Mrs. Lyons will discuss class procedures and give the children an opportunity to become acquainted to their new classmates and classroom. During the
orientation meeting, the kindergarteners will be supervised by our Extended Day directors, Mrs. Kaid and Mrs. Albert in the cafeteria. Parents may then leave with their child at 10:00 AM for the day.
The kindergarteners will begin a full day on Tuesday, August 21.
Sports Fees and Physicals
All 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students who intend to play sports in the upcoming year must have a physical on file by the first day of school.
Fees for the 2007 -2008
$25.00 one child – one sport
$50.00 one child – all sports
$80.00 per family – all sports
Fees are due prior to the child beginning the sport season. All students playing sports must have proof of medical insurance in file in the school office.
Physicals
All students in Grades K & 5 must have a new physical on file in the office by
the first day of school. Students in Grades K, 2, and 6 must have a new dental examination on file by May 2008. New students transferring from out of state must have a physical on file as required by state law. Forms are available in the school office.
Milk
Milk orders for the month of September are due by Friday, August 24.
Milk is $3.00 per month for either white or chocolate. Please place your order in an envelope marked with the child's name and grade and the flavor ordered. Milk is due on the last Friday of each month. Milk may be paid for the entire year ($27.00) Applications for free milk will be sent home the first week of school. Milk for the first two weeks of school is $1.50.
Accident Insurance
Forms to order student accident insurance will be sent home the first day of school. If you already have insurance coverage, please fill out the waiver form that will be attached.
It is important for our records to show that you have coverage, therefore please return the waiver form within one week. Again, all students participating in sports must have proof of medical insurance on file in the office. If you do not have this coverage then this accident insurance is very affordable. There is also 24 hour medical coverage available through this plan.
School Communication
All weekly newsletters are sent home on Fridays.
Please check with your child to make sure you receive this important newsletter. The Family Handbook that you have received can answer most of your questions regarding school policies and regulations. You will be asked to sign a compliance form the first week of school. The school calendar and supply list was sent to your home or sent home on the last day of school. If you did not receive one, please call the school office.
It is vital that you keep open communication with your child's teacher during the year regarding your child's progress and behavior.
If you need to talk to the teacher, please make an appointment with the teacher or through the office.
Also we ask that you being all forgotten items to the office (lunches, notebooks, coats, etc.) and do not interrupt the classroom.
You would be surprised how many interruptions occur at school during the day in the classroom. Please be courteous and bring all items through the office and do not interrupt the class.
