SS. Peter & Paul School Family Newsletter
Week of September 17 – 21, 2007

Welcome- Please welcome Sister Elizabeth Sondag, FSGM to our school staff. Sister will be teaching Confirmation to the 8^th Grade, First Communion and Reconciliation to 2^nd Grade, and religion to 3^rd Grade this year.  Sister has recently joined the Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George. She is a graduate of The Catholic University of America in Washington D.C.  We welcome her to our school family.

Terra Nova Testing - We will be conducting Terra Nova Testing this week to Grades 3, 5, 7, and 8.  The testing will be done in the morning between 8:00 AM and 10:30 AM.  Please make every effort to have your child here for the testing this week.

Pep Rally – We will hold a Pep Rally to kick off the new school year with the Student Council on Friday, September 21 at 1:45 PM. 

Market Fare – Market Fare orders are due on Monday, September 17.  If we receive enough orders this month our school will be eligible for $400.00 in Scholastic books for the library. Pickup date is Tuesday, September 25 from 5:00 – 6:00 PM in the Community Center.

Dinner Auction Meeting – The next Dinner Auction meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 18 at 6:30 PM at Johnson's Corner. There is plenty of work to be done, so please plan to attend.  If you have any questions, please call Jennifer (476-1132) or Marcia (466-7121).

Protecting God's Children – The workshop "Protecting God's Children" will be offered Monday, September 17 in the Sloan room at 6:30 PM.  All volunteers and parents must attend the workshop prior to helping with any school program involving the students. 

50/50 – The PSA sponsors a monthly 50/50 drawing.  There are 100 spots available at $10 per month.  If all of the spots are filled, the jackpot is pro-rated accordingly. Currently only half of the spots are filled. Please consider helping us fill the other half. This is a terrific fundraiser and the odds are very favorable. Money can be sent in to the school, put in the collection at church or mailed. Some people pay a year at a time and some pay monthly.  Anyone interested in participating, please contact Carla Gillespie at 618-462-5961.

8^th Grade Garage Sale - The 8^th Grade is having a Garage Sale on Saturday, Sepember 29^th to raise money for the 8^th grade trip in the school gym. The sale will run from 7:30 AM to 2:00 PM. If you have items to donate to the garage sale, they may be dropped off at the gym the week of the 24^th. (It would help us if you would pre-price the items) After the sale all unsold items will be taken to Goodwill after 2:00 PM on Saturday. Any questions, please contact Sheila Hornsey at 462-4015.

Progress Reports – Progress Reports for the 1^st quarter will be mailed home the weekend of September 22.

Macy's – If you purchased a $5.00 Shop for A Cause certificate to use on October 13, 2007 at Macy's, the $10.00 off coupons are now available.  Please contact the school office or Mrs. vonAlmen at 465-8711.

Looking Ahead –

Picture Day – Tuesday, September 25 is Picture Day!  Order forms will be sent home with each child next week.

Vision & Hearing Screening – Vision & Hearing Screening is Thursday, September 27 for Grades K, 1, 2,  and 8. Vision – K, 1, 2, and 8  Hearing – K, 1, 2, & 3

No School – Monday, September 3, 2007 – Labor Day

Athletic Director – The position of Athletic Director for the 2007 – 2008 school year is open. If you are interested in the position, please contact Miss Fischer at 465-8711.

Lights…Camera….Auction!  The SSPP Dinner Auction and Dance will be held at the Lewis & Clark College Commons Building on Saturday, October 13, 2007.  Doors open at 5:30 PM. Remember to save this important date.

PSA – MARK YOUR CALENDARS! This year's first PSA meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 11 at 6:30 PM.  We need every parent to attend. Very important information is given for the whole year. Our Dinner Auction is just around the corner and we need everyone's help to make it a success. Babysitting and snacks will be provided.  Please don't miss this opportunity to get involved and help your child's school.  Any questions, please call Carla Gillespie at 462-5961.

Pizza – The 8^th Grade Class sells pizza each Wednesday for $1.50 per slice. Orders are due on Tuesday morning for lunch the next day. Attached each week is an order form to use for your child(ren).

Handbook – A new Parent Handbook was issued last year (2006 – 2007) to all families.  Please sign the compliance letter that was sent home last week for this year.
