Teachers & Staff

Mr. Harry Cavanaugh


Harry Cavanaugh joined the faculty of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic School as a principal/teacher in July 2011.  He primarily teaches English/Spelling to upper grade students.  His experience includes 20 years as a teacher, 9 years as a Guidance Counselor and one year as a principal of Bunker Hill High School.  In the fall of 1999, he became principal of Gillespie High School, where he remained for 5 years.  After that, he became Superintendent of Schools in Lebanon, IL, a position he held until his retirement in 2010.  After a year of retirement, he came to Ss. Peter and Paul School.

Mr. Cavanaugh attended Eastern Illinois University and received a degree in Business Education in 1969.  He received his Masters of Education in Counselor Education from SIU-E in 1978, a Specialist in Educational Education Administration from SIU-E in 1997 and his Superintendent’s Endorsement from SIU-E in 2009.

Mr. Cavanaugh lives in Gillespie, IL with his wife Patricia.  He has three grown children, Gregg, Erin, and Whitney and seven grandchildren.  He enjoys reading and traveling.                                                                                    

Sue Kaid


My name is Sue Kaid and I presently work in the office two days a week.  I have been at SsPP from the beginning of time when dinosaurs roamed the earth.  My two children graduated from SsPP.  I was the second treasurer of the PSA, I served on the Board of Education, I was a director of the Before/After School Program, and have subbed for the school throughout my tenure at the school.

I graduated from S.I.U.-E with a B.S. degree in secondary education with my concentration in American Government and American History.

My husband, Dennis, has passed.  My daughter is a robotics teacher and my son is an E-commerce internet writer.  I have one grandson, Elijah.

Dawn Formea


Dawn Formea is a part-time secretary in the SSPP school office; joining the school staff in 2017.  Mrs. Formea is a graduate of Blackburn College, with a former, 20+ year career working in the field of Information Technologies.  Mrs. Formea is married with 2 grown children.  She and her family moved to the Alton/Godfrey area in 1995.  Her husband, Dr. Robert Formea, is a Veterinarian and owns Formea Animal Hospital in Upper Alton.  Hobbies include movie watching, shopping and traveling.

Katie Cain


Katie Cain joined Saints Peter and Paul in 2013 as the pre school aide. In 2018, she took over as the lead teacher. She is a graduate of Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. She has a bachelors degree is Psychology. Her previous work experience included a being a lead 4 years old teacher and aFamily  Service Worker, working with head start. She then stayed home with her young children for several years.

She lives in Godfrey with her husband Tony and two daughters Audrey and Caroline. Her daughters are the 5th generation to attend Sspp. In her spare time she enjoyed watching movies, shopping, traveling to Caroline’s gymnastic meets and watching Audrey play golf. 

Teri Lyons


Teresa Lyons joined the faculty of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic School as a Kindergarten/second grade teacher in 1978 and primarily focuses on teaching all elementary subjects.  Teresa’s experience includes teaching Kindergarten, second third and sixth grade.

She attended Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville and received a degree in Elementary Education.

Mrs. Lyons lives in Godfrey with her husband and enjoys cooking, sewing and gardening.

Angela Ferris

First Grade

My name is Angela Ferris. This is my first year teaching and I am so proud to be at St. Peter and Paul School. I was born in Belleville, IL. but grew up in southeast Missouri. I moved to Alton 2 years ago and fell in love with the area. I went to school at Mineral Area College in Park Hills, MO. and transferred to Central Methodist University. After spending 2 years at Mineral Area College with an art scholarship, I decided I really wanted to be in an elementary classroom. Most of my time is spent putting lesson plans together, taking care of my niece, and grandmother.

Barbara Von Almen

Second Grade

Barb von Almen joined the faculty of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic School as a 4th grade teacher in 1984 and primarily focuses on Elementary Education.  Experience includes teaching 3rd and 4th grades.

Barb attended Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville and earned a degree in Elementary Education.

Mrs. Von Almen lives in Alton with husband Bob and 2 cats and enjoys cooking, baking, exercising and crafts.

Cathy Rose

Third Grade

Cathy Rose joined the faculty of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic School as a 3 rd grade teacher in 1978 and primarily focuses on Elementary Education.  Cathy is experienced in teaching 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades.

Mrs. Rose attended Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville and received a degree in Elementary Education.

Cathy lives in Alton with her husband Chris and beagle Molly and enjoys cooking and playing with her grandchildren.

Brenda Paynic

Fourth Grade

Mrs. Brenda Paynic rejoined the faculty of SS. Peter & Paul School in 2018 as the fourth grade homeroom teacher and math teacher of grades 4 – 8.  She began her Catholic School teaching career at SS. Peter & Paul as the first grade teacher over 20 years ago and has since been a teaching Catholic School principal; first at St. Bernard for 8 years, and most recently at St. Mary in Brussels for 15 years.

Mrs. Paynic is a graduate of Eureka College in Illinois with a BA in Social Work, and of SIUE with a MS in Elementary Education. She and her husband have been married 38 years and have three children and three grandchildren.  She enjoys reading, sewing, crafting, gardening, quilting, photography, traveling, and spending time with family.

Lori Kampwerth

Fifth & Sixth Grades 

Lori Kampwerth joined the faculty of Ss Peter and Paul School in 2018.  She teaches homeroom to grades 5-6 and primarily teaches Social Studies to grades 4-8.  She graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1993 where she earned a degree in Elementary Education with a Social Science Middle School Endorsement.  This is Mrs. Kampwerth’s twentieth year of teaching with seventeen of those years being in Alton Community School District.  She has experience teaching kindergarten, first, third, fifth and sixth grades.

Mrs. Kampwerth lives in Godfrey with her husband, Eric, and their six children.  She also is a proud mommy to three dogs: Murphy, Abraham, and Samson.  She loves spending time with her family, is a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan, and plays on an all girls’ fantasy football team where she is an avid Dallas Cowboy fan.

Katie Lyons

Seventh & Eighth Grades

Katie Lyons joined the faculty of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic School in 2010 and primarily focuses on teaching science to grades 4-8. She also runs the SSPP Science Fair held each January. Experience includes student teaching in Charleston Illinois and subbing in schools around Alton. 

She attended Eastern Illinois University and received a degree in Elementary Education with a Middle School Endorsement. 

Katie lives in Godfrey and enjoys reading, bullet journaling, and pinning things on Pinterest.

Eddie Hitchcock


Eddie Hitchcock teaches music at SsPP.

Sarah J Dhue


Sarah J Dhue joined the staff of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic School in 2017 as the computer teacher.  She started managing the school website in the 2018-19 year.  In the past she student taught Graphic Communications to high schoolers and has volunteered with the Girl Scouts since 2006, as well as held several graphic design positions.

Sarah attended Lewis and Clark Community College and has degrees in Computer Graphics and Web Design.

Sarah lives in Alton with her mom and cats.  When she is not teaching she self-publishes her creative fiction and does freelance photography and design.  She also enjoys reading, cooking, hiking, and travelling.

Angela Borman


Angela Guccione Borman is an alumni of SSPP.  She lives in Godfrey with her husband & four daughters.  Her interests include cooking, baking, cross stitch, & reading.  Helping run the library at SSPP is the best job she's ever had.

Becky Williams


My name is Becky Williams. I am married to Pete Williams, who is a graduate of Ss. Peter & Paul. We have 4 children; 3 of them have graduated from here. Our youngest is a 7th grader. We live in Godfrey. I enjoy volunteering at the school library and knowing all the kids' names in the school. I also enjoy watching and cheering on my kids in sports.
